The new Chinatown Branch of the Chicago Public Library

The new Chinatown Branch of the Chicago Public Library, which opened on Saturday, August 29, 2015, is located at 2100 South Wentworth Avenue. It is the third iteration of the Chinatown Branch Library.


Chinatown is on the Near South Side. As the name implies, it is an ethnic-Chinese neighborhood, which is in the larger Armour Square community area.




 The second iteration of the Chinatown Branch Library was located at 2353 South Wentworth Avenue in Chinatown. It was an 11,000-square-foot storefront branch library of the Chicago Public Library system.

The library was down a block from the famous Chinatown Gate landmark that spans Wentworth Avenue at West Cermak Road. That second iteration of the Chinatown Branch Library was dedicated on September 28, 1990.
